16 words you need to know to follow Israel’s election news in Hebrew
Israeli newspapers are a great resource for practicing Hebrew and learning new terms. For years Hebrew teachers have used them to give Hebrew students exposure to every day Hebrew and topics. The problem is that unless you know some key words of the topics usually discussed it can be hard to follow, especially when it comes to terms related to government and elections.
With party elections that will declare a new Prime Minister coming up in September, these terms have been especially frequent in the news and will continue to be over the next few months. Here is a compilation of some of the main terms used in these stories to help you follow them better.

Additionally, you can see how some of the above terms are used and pronounced in this video posted on YouTube of Israel’s Channel 10 News announcing the 2006 election results.
